\nparticularly Bumiputras, in the country.<\/font><\/p>\n
\nfranchising, the government appointed Perbadanan Nasional Bhd (PNS) to
\nimplement Malaysia\u2019s franchise development programmes. <\/span>RM600 million has been allocated towards
\nthis purpose. <\/span>One franchise programme
\nis the investment and loan schemes for franchisepreneurs \u2013 Mezzanine Franchise
\nScheme, Smart Partnership Franchise Scheme, Budding Franchise Scheme and
\nFranchisee Financing Scheme. <\/span>Other
\nfranchise programmes include Education and Training, Local and Overseas
\nPromotion, Franchise Right of Purchase, Product Development, Database,
\nFranchisor Credential, and Franchisee Matching Activity. <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
\nAbdullah Haji Ahmad Badawi, gave the assurance for the continuance of the
\nGraduate Franchise Programme under Bank Pembangunan & Infrastruktur
\nMalaysia to produce 150 trainees annually.
\n<\/span>\u201cThe target is to develop 1,000 new franchisees and 50 franchisors under
\nthe Eighth Malaysian Plan (2001-2005),\u201d revealed Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin,
\nMinister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives. <\/font><\/p>\n
\nfranchise industry has registered a healthy 10% growth over the past few
\nyears. <\/span>According to a Malaysia-US
\nmarket research, Bumiputras now represent 40% of franchise owners in Malaysia
\nas compared to less than 10% a decade ago.
\n<\/span>Sales from franchise products went from RM8.6 billion in 2001 to RM10.7
\nbillion in 2002, representing a good 24% increase in total sales figure. <\/span>At present, there are 321 Malaysian
\nfranchise companies with 3,700 franchisees in the country. <\/span>The best prospects identified for franchises
\nin Malaysia encompass fast-food outlets, English educational and training
\nproducts, healthcare, gift and souvenir shops, and franchise consultancy. <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
\nSugarbun, the popular fast food chain who have targeted to open 150 outlets
\nthroughout Malaysia by 2010. <\/span>Sugarbun
\nCorp Bhd currently have 48 outlets in the country of which 9 are franchised
\noutlets in Sarawak, 1 in Sabah and 4 in Brunei. <\/span>Sugarbun has expanded overseas with its first franchise flagship
\nrestaurant in Chittagong, Bangladesh, which opened for business end of last
\nyear. <\/span>Negotiations are in now progress
\nfor Sugarbun oulets in Oman, Sri Lanka, Ho Chi Minh City and Shanghai.<\/font><\/p>\n
