Bhd, Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki unveiled critical updates during the Bintulu Port Media Appreciation Night 2024. Beyond being a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal, Bintulu Port is pivotal in palm oil exports, contributing 95% to Sarawak’s economy at about four million tons a year. It is the largest container terminal in East Malaysia, surpassing the combined volume of all eight ports in Sabah and placing third in Malaysia, which amounts to roughly fifty million tons annually.

Ruslan, CEO of BPHB, underscored the port’s commitment to realising Premier Sarawak’s vision. Bintulu Port aims to become a ‘Major Green Power Port,’ playing an instrumental role in providing green and clean energy for the future. The strategic location and robust infrastructure position the port as a key player in achieving Sarawak’s ambitious green energy goals. Combined with Samalaju Port, they can handle products worth almost half a trillion ringgit annually. The port’s role in exporting LNG and palm oil products and its capability to efficiently serve offshore Sarawak solidify its position as a significant economic driver. Notably, Bintulu Port Holdings holds the sole license to operate a full-fledged oil and gas supply base for Sarawak, as awarded by the Ministry of Finance (MOF) and the Malaysian Customs Department in September 2023, enhancing its role in the region’s economic landscape.

Media Recognition

During the event, State Secretary Datuk Amar Haji Mohamad Abu Bakar bin Marzuki presented appreciation awards to 14 media organisations, recognising their significant contribution to promoting information and awareness. Among the honoured entities were DayakDaily, RTM, Sarawak Public Communication Unit, TVS, New Sarawak Tribune, Suara Sarawak, The Star, and New Straits Times Press.

Bintulu Port’s journey to become a premier green energy hub is emblematic of Sarawak’s resolute commitment to sustainable development.
