In a strategic move to address the growing demand for affordable housing in Sarawak, the state government is set to establish a Trust Fund dedicated to developing housing projects for its citizens in 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During their visitation to the Sungai Bedaun Housing Scheme on 6 January 2024, the Premier of Sarawak announced significant changes in regulations for housing developers, emphasising a shift from mandatory construction of affordable housing units on their land to contributing funds to the housing fund.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative aims to counter issues arising from dishonest practices by developers, preventing losses and abandoned projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is actively progressing with its housing schemes, particularly Package 1 in the Sungai Bedaun Housing Scheme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This 46-acre project involves the construction of 209 house units, adhering to specific selection criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The development is anticipated to be fully completed in the first quarter of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, 126 families from Seberang Hilir village in Kuching are scheduled to move into the housing scheme by April, with plans for the second phase underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Premier highlighted the varying house prices based on area, with a 750-square-foot house costing RM99,500 and an 850-square-foot house priced at RM120,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government is offering buyers an RM10,000 deposit; the remainder can be financed through the Mutiara Mortgage loan, fostering accessibility for potential homeowners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Members of the HDC, including Chairman YB Abdul Yakub Arbi and CEO Mr. Fathi Hj. Hambali conducted a site visit to the RMM Ranggau Project in Limbang on 15 January 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n

This project involves the construction of 102 units of 2 Storey Terrace Houses and 26 units of Double Storey (Semi-D) Houses. Additionally, 47 units of Rumah Spektra Houses (RSP) for the Limbang Relocation Scheme (SPS) will be built in Batu Biah, Limbang, with 79 units of Gem Spectrum Houses (RSP) slated for construction in Lawas under Skim Penempatan Semula (SPS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

HDC Chairman YB Abdul Yakub Arbi emphasised the necessity of RSP units in Limbang to meet the local demand for affordable housing. He further highlighted that similar housing initiatives are being implemented across various regions in Sarawak.<\/p>\n\n\n

Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) Update<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Sarawak government has expanded the Sarawak Rental Assistance Scheme (SRAS) to alleviate the financial burden on lower-income Sarawak students pursuing higher education. Deputy Premier and Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, shared the news on his social media<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The SRAS, now extended to eligible public and private higher education institution students, offers monthly rental payment assistance of RM200 for up to three (3) years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Notable updates include increasing the monthly household income limit to RM4,556 and extending eligibility to married couples, single parents, and individuals working within the income criteria. Interested applicants can find the SRAS application form on HDC’s website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Sarawak continues to prioritise affordable housing and support for its citizens, these initiatives underscore the government’s commitment to improving living standards and providing housing solutions for its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
