Success stories in the arena of developing Sarawak evoke a sense of
\npride and unity amongst the people of this great state, even more so as the
\ntargeted focus of 2020 is close towards becoming a reality. The year of 2006
\nbrought a success rate of 98 percent for the State Development Office\u2019s
\n(SDO) projects that were implemented in the areas of Miri and the Baram.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n

Public Infrastructure Maintenance
\n(PIA) Projects<\/span><\/o:p><\/span><\/font><\/h2>\n
\n<\/div>\n

The job
\nscope of the PIA projects that were carried out in 2006 included infrastructure
\nmaintenance and quality-improving measures towards government buildings,
\nincluding:<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

\n<\/div>\n
    \n
  • The repairing of
    \nfences, guard houses, entrance\/exit ways, floors, walls, roofs, rain-water
    \nflowage systems, toilets, water pipe systems, drains, sewage systems and roads<\/span><\/font><\/span><\/font><\/li>\n
  • The
    \nrepairing\/rewiring of electrical systems (excluding air conditioners)<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
    \n<\/div>\n
    \n<\/div>\n

    The objectives
    \nof these projects were to repair and restore the government-owned buildings and
    \nfacilities so as to provide the utmost comfort for its users, noting the importance
    \nof quality maintenance. The overall total cost of the 2006 PIA projects in Miri
    \nand the Baram reached RM 10.666 million.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

    Rural Basic Infrastructure
    \nDevelopment (PIAS) Projects<\/span><\/font><\/h2>\n
    \n<\/div>\n

    The PIAS projects that were carried out in
    \n2006 included:<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

    \n<\/div>\n
      \n
    • The construction, repairing and
      \nimprovement of small bridges, culverts\/gabions, small jetties, drains and
      \nvillage and plantation roads<\/span><\/font><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
      \n<\/div>\n

      The
      \nobjective of these projects was to provide the people of Miri and the Baram
      \nwith basic infrastructure amenities. The 2006 PIAS projects in these areas
      \ntotalled to RM 10.433 million. <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

      \n<\/div>\n

      Let us hope that
      \n2007 will bring even more developmental success in Miri and the Baram,
      \nsubsequently bringing forth the realisation of the 9th<\/sup> Malaysia Plan
      \n(9MP) for Sarawak.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
