<\/span> <\/span><\/strong>Why was the JKKK established in the first place?<\/strong> <\/span>To
\nhelp eradicate poverty, eliminate illiteracy, improve health conditions
\nand change \u201ccould not be bothered\u201d attitudes of people in rural
\nvillages is the answer. <\/span>As an important player
\nin rural development and village administration, the Village
\nDevelopment & Security Committee (Jawatan Kuasa Kemajuan &
\nKeselamatan Kampung) or JKKK has ensure its members are active
\nparticipants so that a better life and standard is achieved that is
\nconsistent with the progress of the nation. <\/span><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/o:p><\/font><\/p>\n

<\/span> <\/span>It is therefore disappointing that a large majority of the JKKKs in Sarawak is not active. <\/span>Out of a total of 3,436 registered JKKKs, only 177 or 5.15% are considered active. <\/span>This
\nalarming figure could be due to several factors: lack in formal
\neducation amongst the members and leaders, lack of accessibility to
\nrelevant authorities and organizations for guidance and motivation, and
\nlack in communication, planning or visioning skills as well as other
\nrelevant competency skills at the grassroots level. <\/span>There
\nis also the problem of rural-urban migrations, where higher educated
\nmembers chose to stay in the city or even abroad, instead of returning
\nto their villages. <\/span><\/font><\/div>\n

\nThe state government is stepping up its effort to change this
\ndisturbing scenario by organizing workshop sessions to highlight the
\nsignificant roles that JKKKs play in the village development and
\nadministration of the rural regions. JKKKs are also encouraged to equip
\nthemselves with knowledge in Information and Communication Technology
\n(ICT) as with ICT, remote villages are no longer isolated from
\ndevelopment and would be able to communicate through the internet.<\/font><\/p>\n<\/td>\n

<\/span> <\/span><\/span>JKKKs who are diligent in carrying out their activities are provided with an annual funding by the government. <\/span>\u201cThe active JKKKs will receive a yearly allocation of RM500 from the government in support of their activities. <\/span>If
\nthese JKKKs are however found to have become inactive, the funding will
\nstop,\u201d warns YB Datuk Amar Abdul Aziz Husain, State Secretary of
\nSarawak.<\/span><\/font><\/p>\n
