{"id":22020,"date":"2023-08-15T03:13:00","date_gmt":"2023-08-14T19:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v3\/?p=22020"},"modified":"2023-08-19T19:12:23","modified_gmt":"2023-08-19T11:12:23","slug":"an-innovation-for-a-more-sustainable-kelulut-honey-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/2023\/08\/15\/an-innovation-for-a-more-sustainable-kelulut-honey-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"An Innovation For A More Sustainable Kelulut Honey Industry"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h6 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&#8211; extracted and adapted from <em><strong>RAKAN Sarawak<\/strong><\/em> October-December 2021 &#8211;<\/h6>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">Kelulut honey, or so-called stingless bee honey of <em>Heterotrigona itama<\/em> has been reported to contain phenolic compounds and high antioxidant activity which brings various significant health benefits.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite being a \u2018superfood\u2019, fresh harvested stingless bee honey always has storage problem as it easily undergoes rapid fermentation due to its high moisture content of above 30 per cent. The application of high heat in these methods was found to degrade the quality of the honey, such as causing the loss of aromatic substances and increase its hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) content.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Besides, those available commercially honey dehydrators are mostly for big scale production (minimum 20kg per batch) and costly, which is not suitable for small and medium entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/54-6-Q4-2021.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22018\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/54-6-Q4-2021.jpg 640w, https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/54-6-Q4-2021-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/54-6-Q4-2021-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/54-6-Q4-2021-600x338.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">The DEHYDOMETM was the winner for the Konvensyen KIK Peringkat MARDI in 2019<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p><strong>Background of <\/strong><strong>DEHYDOME<sup>TM<\/sup><\/strong><strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>DEHYDOME<sup>TM<\/sup> is developed by MARDI as an alternative to replace the current methods for reducing moisture of stingless bee honey with dehydration temperature below 40\u00b0C (temperature that not affect the quality of honey).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on the performance test on the prototype, it has been found that DEHYDOME<sup>TM<\/sup> can reduce the moisture of stingless bee honey to below 22 per cent &nbsp;in just 6 to 10 hours compared to most existing methods which take more than 24 hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This easy handling dehydrator DEHYDOME<sup>TM<\/sup> can give a big impact to the local stingless bee entrepreneurs especially to reduce the operational costs in honey processing. development<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the time of writing, Team Trigona Tech is in the process of incorporating an element of Circular Economy Practice into DEHYDOME<sup>TM<\/sup> for its sustainability and to encourage more entrepreneurs to process honey using an affordable, simpler and smarter method which can reduce cost, increase income, better quality and market price of stingless bee honey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This can be done by installing IoT device (Internet of Things) into DEHYDOME<sup>TM<\/sup> so that it can be controlled and monitored by using smartphone apps from any location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to MARDI, to date, a total of 357 orders have been received for DEHYDOME<sup>TM<\/sup>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of four companies are interested and is currently in
