{"id":23278,"date":"2023-12-21T19:27:00","date_gmt":"2023-12-21T11:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v3\/?p=23278"},"modified":"2023-12-21T17:31:38","modified_gmt":"2023-12-21T09:31:38","slug":"the-importance-of-performance-management-in-the-public-sector","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/2023\/12\/21\/the-importance-of-performance-management-in-the-public-sector\/","title":{"rendered":"The Importance of Performance Management in the Public Sector"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-drop-cap\">The Sarawak Government is looking into improving the performance management system of the Sarawak civil service (SCS) in accordance with enhanced evaluation criteria in line with the organisation\u2019s performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To that end, a sum of RM1.5 million will be allocated in 2024 under the SCS Talent Management System, announced the Premier of Sarawak YAB Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Haji Abdul Rahman Zohari bin Tun Datuk Abang Haji Openg during the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly sitting in November 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The measure is one of several others under the 12<sup>th<\/sup> strategic thrust \u2013 \u201cEnhancing Government Capacity and Service Delivery\u201d \u2013 of the 2024 State Budget; specifically in boosting capacity building of SCS workforce.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"400\" height=\"267\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v3\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/RO-5-1-1-113-2023.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-23274\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/RO-5-1-1-113-2023.jpg 400w, https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/RO-5-1-1-113-2023-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.rakansarawak.com\/v4\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/12\/RO-5-1-1-113-2023-150x100.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">As part of its efforts to revamp the Sarawak civil service, the Sarawak Government will allocate RM1.5 million under the SCS Talent Management System through the 2024 State Budget. Their function in providing efficient and quality government services would create trust and confidence among the <em>rakyat<\/em> towards the Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cReform efforts are being undertaken to build more responsive and effective public civil service so that it is able to deal with the current and future challenges,\u201d the Premier said of the strategic thrust, further outlining its objectives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>To increase the capacity of Government strategic human resource management and workforce planning;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To strengthen the recruitment system;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To strengthen the performance-oriented policies and performance management system; and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To enhance the well-being of the State Civil Service.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Within an organisation, performance management usually takes place throughout the year. It involves a manager and an employee undertaking a continuing process of communication that might include establishing and determining goals or objectives; making clear of expectations; analysing results; and presenting feedback.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An effective performance management system is vital for an organisation to be able to accomplish its strategic goals. File photo<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>At the same time, through constant engagement with employees, the organisation can eliminate any aspect of work that is deemed irrelevant or identify problems early on in a project or an employee\u2019s work assignment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This allows the streamlining of its work process and improvement in its efficiency, which can then lead to better use of its resources and a boost in productivity in the long run.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These advantages matter greatly in the public sector.
