Child Friendly Cities Initiative<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

The Child Friendly Cities Initiative<\/a> (CFCI) was launched in 1996 by the United Nations Children\u2019s Fund (UNICEF) and the United Nations Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), acting on the resolution passed during the second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II) to make cities liveable places for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Led by UNICEF, the initiative aims to support municipal governments in realising the rights of children at the local level, with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child as its foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is also a network that gather government and other stakeholders including civil society organisations, the private sector, academia, the media and, most importantly, children themselves who want to make their cities and communities more adaptable to their needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From UNICEF\u2019s perspective<\/a> \u2013 and based on experiences of cities who have implemented this initiative over the past few decades \u2013 a city that is child friendly takes account of the voices, needs, priorities and rights of children as integral in developing public policies, programmes and decisions.<\/p>\n\n\n
