International Conference on Information Technology in Asia 2009 <\/font><\/b><\/p>\n

The Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak is organising the sixth International Conference on Information Technology in Asia 2009 (CITA'09) from the 6th to 9th July 2009 at the Hilton Hotel, Kuching, Sarawak. The opening ceremony is on the 7th July 2009. . In conjunction with the conference, related workshops are organised on the 6th July 2009 at the university's main campus.<\/font><\/p>\n

The International Conference on IT in Asia (CITA) is an international forum reflecting on the increasing focus on issues concerning ICTs in developing countries. The main aim of the conference is to examine the continuing roles of ICTs within the prevailing challenges of development faced by the region and to investigate how the technology can be adapted to improve local needs as well as to bring technology within reach of the communities.<\/font><\/p>\n

Now in its 6th run, the conference marks its 10th anniversary with the theme "Towards Human-Centered Computing\u201d. Basically, the advancement of technologies has improved the quality of lives of people whereby it has enabled pervasive access for everyone with ubiquitous devices to ensure a connected global world. <\/font><\/p>\n

However, current technological solutions, no matter how advanced, by themselves are not enough without taking into account the people that use them. This lag is largely due to the fact that human cognitive ability is still not fully understood. Through this conference these issues will be discussed and deliberated.<\/font><\/p>\n

In order to achieve such aims, the collaboration and interaction between the fields of cognitive science, neuroscience, and computer technology is required. The increasing variety of technological advances could then be exploited for adding values and enhance aspects of day-to-day living.<\/font><\/p>\n

For example, a review of cognitive, behavioural and functional model of human problem solving capabilities is crucial to establish a better understanding of domain problem. The design of computer systems could benefit greatly from an elaborate modeling of environmental parameters and their relationships.<\/font><\/p>\n

In addition, advances in artificial intelligence and knowledge-based systems will provide the ability to assimilate intelligence into systems to make them behave more human-like. These technologies will in future be embedded within systems providing personal assistance for real-time informed decision-making.<\/font><\/p>\n

At the same time, social implications should not be overlooked, on how these technologies impact on the people, and how people can use technologies to further enhance their productivity and livelihood. <\/font><\/p>\n

In addition, the role of indigenous and traditional knowledge should not be ignored. Such knowledge, not only adds to the richness of human diversity, but may contain solutions to future problems. There is a need to capture this local knowledge, culture, languages and traditions which may contribute to the advancement of human-machine integration.<\/font><\/p>\n

Thus, CITA' 09 invites researchers, practitioners and developers from various areas of science and technology, to share knowledge and experience in addressing the issues in human-centered computing. This conference will provide a platform for researchers and industry players to discuss the role and impact of Social Computing as well as sharing ideas on implementations and integration of these emergent technologies. 51 high-quality papers in the following tracks will be presented in CITA' 09: Image Processing, Networks Related, Community Informatics, Software Engineering & Knowledge Management, Computational & Theoretical Science, Human Computer Interaction and Government & Industry<\/font><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
