A seminar on human resources (HR) earlier this week serves as an indication of the government\u2019s commitment in developing the future leaders of its civil service.<\/p>\n

The seminar, which began Sunday evening and concluded on Monday, became a rare opportunity for some 350 participants from both the public and private sectors to have an audience with Professor Dave Ulrich, who is the Rensis Likert professor at Ross School of Business in University of Michigan.<\/p>\n

In his speech, the State Secretary mentioned that he hopes that through this seminar, the State Government will embark on a journey to transform their perspective and open up new ways of doing things.<\/p>\n

“Our transformation is all about changing our perspectives so that our work culture can transcend to a much higher level,” he said.<\/p>\n

State Secretary Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani also emphasised that the session was an opportunity\u00a0for the exchange of ideas between the public and private sector.<\/p>\n

The programme, hosted by the Leadership Institute of Sarawak Civil Service formerly known as Centre of Modern Management, and funded by the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF) under the federal Ministry of Human Resources.<\/p>\n

The speaker was ranked \u2018Number One\u2019 among the \u201cMost Influential International Thought Leader in HR\u2019 by HR Magazine in 2011. He also boasts other accolades, among them the \u2018Lifetime Achievement Award\u2019 from HR Magazine in 2012 for being the \u2018Father of Modern Human Resources\u2019.<\/p>\n

His presentation themed \u2018Human Resource Value Creation: Perspective, Outcomes, Transformation\u2019 in which, he emphasised that the\u00a0new trend in HR was creating\u00a0value from the outside in and connecting with key stakeholders of the organisation and the community at large.<\/p>\n

An interesting comment Prof. Dr. Dave pointed out was, “HR is not solely about HR”.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe outcome of HR value creation is in recognising its importance in building talents and leadership competencies which can be instilled towards a desired culture,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
