KUCHING: The International Youth Cultural Conference (IYCC) organised by Yayasan Perpaduan Sarawak (YPS) welcomes more than 350 participants from around the world to its inaugural event which begins today.<\/p>\n

The conference delegates comprising youths from 19 different countries will convene at Sarawak Cultural Village for the three-day event ending Nov 30.<\/p>\n

Youths will have the opportunity to listen to an interesting mix of speakers from all over the world; participate in discussions and workshops; and take part in fun activities including a mini concert featuring local acts.<\/p>\n

Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud, who is chairman of the YPS Board of Trustees, is expected to spend some time with the delegates to share his thoughts on culture and global unity on the last day of the conference.<\/p>\n

The IYCC falls under the umbrella of the \u2018March on for Unity 2012\u2019, which is YPS\u2019 theme for this year.<\/p>\n

According to the secretary to the YPS Board of Trustees, Mark Noel Bonchol, this gathering of young people aged 18 to 25 will help the foundation nurture a more thorough sense of unity by providing them with exposure to the diverse cultures and traditions around them.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe hope the youth can, through this conference, continue to discover the keys to building bridges of harmony and unity, particularly in this borderless digital era,\u201d said Mark.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the March on for Unity 2012 calendar of activities is a joint effort by YPS, Sarawak Development Institute (SDI), and Faradale Media-M Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Angkatan Zaman Mansang (AZAM) Sarawak.<\/p>\n

Other activities throughout the year include collaboration in organising a design and a short film competition, forums on unity and inter-culturalism, dialogues with the chief minister, and a series of public film screenings made across Sarawak.<\/p>\n
