The Sarawak Biodiversity Centre (SBC) in collaboration with the Malaysian Nature Society (MNS). Kuching Branch\u2019s Birding Group will hold an afternoon programme entitled \u201cMy Garden Birdwatch\u201d on 10 May 2010 at the DBKU Auditorium, Bukit Siol, Petra Jaya.<\/p>\n
The programme will begin at 2.00 pm and end at 4.30 pm, and will be made up of an awareness talk on Birding by Dr Ronald Orenstein and a short workshop on birdwatching by facilitators from MNS\u2019 Birding Group.<\/p>\n
Dr Ronald Orenstein is a zoologist, lawyer, wildlife conservationist and Project Director for the International Wildlife Coalition. He is the editor of Elephants: The Deciding Decade and the author of the How on Earth series, Songbirds: Celebrating Nature\u2019s Voices, New Animal Discoveries and Survivors in Armor: Turtles, Tortoises & Terrapins. He lives in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada.<\/p>\n
The talk will encompass the basics of birdwatching as well as some of Orenstein\u2019s own birding adventures in Sarawak while the workshop will teach the participants on what to look out for in discerning birds and highlight some of the common birds found in and around Kuching city.<\/p>\n
Targeted at school students and the general public, the objectives of the programme are to create awareness on Sarawak\u2019s natural biodiversity, with emphasis on birds that can be spotted in our daily surroundings, including in our very own gardens.<\/p>\n
It is also aimed at creating an interest in birdwatching as a hobby as well as encouraging the students and general public to be more aware of biodiversity that surrounds them every day.<\/p>\n
