The implementation of free higher education through the Free Higher Education Scheme (FTES) is a significant policy step in the effort to build Sarawak’s human capital.
Starting in 2026, Sarawakian students studying at Sarawak state universities such as Universiti Teknologi Sarawak, Curtin University Malaysia, Laila Taib College, Swinburne University of Technology, and i-CATS University College will enjoy tuition fee exemption for 64 identified undergraduate degree programmes.
With an allocation of RM250 million, FTES will not only reduce the financial burden on families, but also transform access to education
