Social Welfare Department of Sarawak (JKMS) and Women and Family Department of Sarawak (JWKS) today (3 March 2021) received new director.
Two women who are highly experienced in the Sarawak civil service, Puan Noriah Ahmad appointed to lead the Social Welfare Department of Sarawak (JKMS) and Puan Norita Bawi appointed as Women and Family Department of Sarawak (JWKS) director.
Former JWKS director Puan Noriah Ahmad has been part of JKMS as its new director since 1 March 2021.
This is not her first time in this post, as she was the director of the department between 2011 and 2013 before leading the Women’s Bureau in 2014 (renamed as JWKS in 2015) under the Ministry of Welfare, Women and Family Development Sarawak.
Meanwhile, former Sarawak Islamic Department (JAIS) deputy director Puan Norita Bawi replaces Puan Noriah as the new director of JWKS and begins her tenure on 3 March 2021.
She is no stranger to handling matters concerning women’s issues as she was an administrative officer and assistant director at the Women’s Bureau under the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanisation Sarawak between 1994 to 2002.
Speaking about their appointments at a press conference on 3 March 2021, Minister of Welfare, Community Well-being, Women, Family and Childhood Development YB Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah expressed her confidence towards Puan Noriah and Puan Norita in strengthening and further developing their respective departments to greater heights with the decades of experience that they possess.
She also hoped that as they strive to play their part in enhancing the socio-economic well-being of Sarawakians, both new directors are able to perform with the dedication, commitment and integrity that their roles require.
