The State government has introduced several initiatives through the Ministry of Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development, Sarawak.
During an online press conference on 3rd March, its minister YB Dato Sri Hajah Fatimah Abdullah introduced the initiatives.
The initiatives meant to enhance the Sarawak government’s delivery of social and welfare services to the people covering all ages and various backgrounds.
It includes:
Endowment Fund Sarawak (EFS): The Sarawak Endowment Fund (EFS) of RM1,000.00 is implemented to every Sarawakian newborn from 1 January 2019 onwards. The funds which can be withdrawn once the child reaches 18 years old aims to help them further their studies or as capital to start their career.
Bantuan Ibu Bersalin (BIB): Starting 1st January 2020, this maternity incentive worth RM450 is given to mothers who gave birth. The objective of BIB is to provide for the need of the mother after giving birth in terms of food and self-care.
Geran Tahunan Khas (GTK): GTK is a grant worth RM5000 given to early childhood development institutes (IPAKK) registered in Sarawak.
Kenyalang Gold Card (KGC): The KGC card is given exclusively for Sarawakians aged 60 and over. These cards provide privileges such as special discounts at selected food outlets, grocery stores and many other services.
Bantuan Ihsan kematian (BIK): BIK is an initiative by the State government as a financial assistance of RM3000 to the family members of the KCG card holders to help in the management of the remains as well as to ease the burden of the family members. This assistance is for KGC cardholders is for those who do not receive any welfare assistance from the Public Service Department – pensions, Insurance, Employees Provident Group (EPF) and SOCSO.
Bantuan Pesakit Buah Pinggang (BPBP): This initiative is given to alleviate the burden of kidney patients from the B40 and M40 groups covering treatment assistance and support assistance.
